I have always felt like I wasn't getting the most out of a day. It was as though I found myself unable to make time for certain things I wanted to get done. There had to be a way to do it, especially if people like Elon Musk and Bill Gates can get so many things done in a day.
Why couldn't I? I had been looking at time all wrong. Let me paint a picture of how I used to look at it. It's 8:15 AM. I tell myself "I'm going to sit down for work at 9 AM". I get on the phone, scroll through Instagram, watch a YouTube video or 2, and then before you know it, it's 9:10. Then I convince myself that I have missed the time to start and now I'll start at 10 instead.
I realized that I was so used to thinking like a calendar. When I add a new event in the calendar it automatically sets the time for 1 hour. These time blocks were the issue. It kept making me waste time.
I figured if I keep going with an "It's 1:38, can't start work till 2 now" attitude, I'll lose chunks of time. So I decided to make a change. I initially tried reducing the time blocks from 1 hour to 30 mins. I found many 30-min windows in my day that I could fill with meditation, some writing, or even my online courses.
I tried that out for 2 weeks but I still found smaller windows of time where I could be reading a book or doing some stretching. I have currently brought myself to perceive time in 15-min blocks. That divides each hour into 4 parts (Quick math). This gave me the ability to stop procrastinating. I found myself filling 15-min blocks with books, stretching, doing some research for topics I want to know more about. (For reference, Elon Musk and Bill Gates think of time in 5-min increments)
This is honestly one of the most productive ways I have found of looking at time. It has helped me get more out of my day. Having a 30 min call didn't mean I had to block out a whole hour in my head anymore. I went from thinking I was busy, to actually being busy. And busy is good in my opinion.
That's all I have for this productivity tip. If you guys found this useful and want to know of more productivity tips I implement in my life, you can DM me.
All be blessed,
Rahil Dave
